Did you know that schools may now carry a spare blue asthma reliever inhaler in the fight with asthma?
As you may be aware, schools have previously been unable to keep spare reliever inhalers as the contents are classed as a prescription only medicine. However, following a comprehensive consultation, the law changed on the 1st October 2014 to allow schools to keep a spare salbutamol reliever inhaler and compatible spacers in case of an emergency.
This legislation change represents a significant adjustment to the management of asthma in schools. Whilst guidance is still to be completed for Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, the full guidance for England, published by the Department of Health, can be found below:
